Tilden Park was beautiful, with blossoms on the cherry trees, pine trees pollinating, and the grasses short and bright green. There were birds a-tweeting everywhere, except the owls were a-hooting, there were plenty of plump deer and rabbits, and a few packs of coyotes were a-howling in the evening. The views across the bay from the high parts of the courses, of Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco skyline were magnificent. We were fortunate with the weather—partly cloudy, 50 to 55 degrees, a slight breeze and no rain.
We had 246 people signed up for the courses—a fantastic turnout for mid-winter! Notable performances: On White, Venya Karpelevitch won in 32:37 and Erika Reed was second in 35:07. Sam Joffe won the Yellow course in 31:07, followed by Tom Zajdo in 36:15, and Claire Discenza in 37:01. The Orange course was won by Toru Furusawa in 49:40, chased in by Ellen Smith in 54:14. The Short Brown course was won by Oct (whoever that speedy person is) in 1:03:48, followed by Gary Kraght in 1:09:27, Nathan Booth in 1:09:46, and Johanna Merriss in 1:14:26. The (longer) Brown course was won by Chuck Spalding in 1:01:33, and he was followed by Lori Huberman in 1:03:58. Tapio Karras was first on the Green course in 1:11:20, young Daniel Šebo was second in 1:24:15, followed by Steve Gregg, Derek Maclean, and then Stephanie Maclean in 2:02:45. Johannes Henriksson demolished a hard Red course in 1:16:10, with Graham Brew in second in 1:43:46. And the tough Blue course was won handily by Riley Culberg in 1:30:55, followed by Aron Walker in 1:36:58, and Siargey Pisarchyk in 1:37:00 (2 seconds later!).
We also had the pleasure of announcing this year's COOL winners: Natalie Kim and Jamie Maclean were awarded two tickets each to see Lorde on March 21. Awesome!!
It would be great if folks would enter their routes into RouteGadget—there were a lot of choices, and it's fun (and informative) to compare with others.
