About 180 people enjoyed orienteering at the Indian Valley college campus and surrounding hills. They were treated to perfect weather, no competing swim meets, and some very good courses by Tobias Tornqvist. This was Tobias' first time course-setting with BAOC, with hopefully many more to come. The event also had a nice international flavor, with runners from a half-dozen countries participating.

The results are posted below, and you can check out how everyone did. But I'd like to call out several noteworthy performances.

• On Blue, François Léonard devastated the field, leading by over 10 minutes.
• Antoine Finot not only won his Brown course, but then came in second on Green, missing a second win by less than a minute. The Brown and Green courses shared a few controls in common, but this is still most impressive.
• And Anastasiya Gordeeva was top woman on Red, and only a couple of minutes away from an overall win herself.

Several people used Yellow as a second course after first completing a more technical course. This can be an effective training tactic, and perhaps we shall see more of this at future events. And I'd like to give a shout out to Berkeley High. The high-school club organizers are doing something right, as we are seeing more and more Berkeley HS students coming to events and doing well.

Every orienteering event needs a lot of volunteers, and I certainly appreciate the many people who stepped up to help at Indian Valley.

• Scott Aster was my assistant event director, and de facto event director on March 12. We would not have had an event without him.
• Tobias Tornqvist learned course-setting BAOC-style, and provided wonderful courses for everyone. He's got a cute family too, which I'm sure we will be seeing more of at future events.
• Sarah Williams and Judy Koehler helped me at registration.
• Judy Koehler also did multiple Beginners Clinics.
• E-punch was staffed by Jeff Lanam and Rosemary Johnson.
• My wife, Olga Kraght, was instrumental in setting up and taking down everything, and kept me sane in between.
• Mark Burchill, Mel Conrad, and Leslie Minarik helped start people on their courses.
• Greg Ehrensing and Jay Hann organized equipment and made sure everything needed was available.
• Bob Cooley printed enough maps that we did not run out of maps on any of the courses, even with the good turnout.
• And a whole crew helped with control pickup, including Mark Blair, Jay Hann, Steve O'Keefe, Tapio Karras, Anastasiya Gordeeva, Tobias Tornqvist, Olga Kraght, Steve Haas, and Matthias Kohler.
