This Saturday event will be the second of six events in the 2026 Summer Series. Everyone is welcome to come out and do one (or more) of the courses, regardless of whether or not you have attended, or plan to attend other Summer Series events.
We encourage beginners to attend — no experience is necessary. The DVC campus has many distinctive landmarks, so anyone should be able to navigate the Beginner course. Checkout our Get Started page for more info.
Good news: Our permit will allow us to serve snacks at the event! (So, it would be greatly appreciated if somebody would volunteer to purchase and setup the usual snacks.)
We look forward to seeing everyone at what is always a fun event!
Beginners ↑
Check out our Get Started page.
Registration ↑
If you have registered for the Summer Series Discount Package, you do not need to register for this event. Online Registration (preferred) Closes on Friday, June 26th, at 6:00 PM.
Groups larger than 10 should reach out to the Event Director, so we can plan accordingly (e.g., print enough maps).
Registration on the day will also be available 9am - noon and is required for groups.
Schedule ↑
9:00 AM – 11:59 AM: Registration is open
9:30 AM – 10:30 AM: Beginner instruction is available (free)
10:00 AM – 12:30 PM: Starts are open for all the courses
2:00 PM: Everyone must have returned to the Finish
Everyone must return to the Finish by 2:00 PM, and then promptly go to the download tent, even if they have not completed their course. Please do not leave without checking in! If there are unaccounted people after 2:00, we must initiate a search for them.
At registration, all minors (people under 18) must be accompanied by parents or legal guardians, or bring with them a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian (e.g., print the registration form).
You can register and start on the courses anytime during the open times above.
Volunteers ↑
As always, this event can't happen without volunteers. You can see the tasks that need to be done, and sign up in this form. Thank you very much for being willing to help!
It's very easy to help, and it makes it possible for us have an event for all of us to enjoy. Of course, you get to do your course, too!
Not sure what to help with? Just want to help with something? Just contact me, and I can help you find a helpful role.
Thank you, Weichun Fong, Event Director.
Costs ↑
An optional Summer Series Discount Package is available, providing entry to the five Bay Area events at a reduced cost.
The following fees apply for this event:
$3 for each junior on the Beginner course
$8 for each adult on the Beginner course
$5 for each junior on the Short or Long course
$15 for each adult member on the Short or Long course
$20 for each adult non-member on the Short or Long course
$1 for a compass rental (optional)
$5 for an electronic fingerstick rental (if you don't own one; each group will need one to complete their course)
$15 for the lowest-cost individual one-year BAOC membership (optional)
Location on Campus ↑
We will meet on the north side of the campus, where we have been in the past (Google map). The approximate coordinates are 37.9699,-122.0724.
Venue Facilities and Restrictions ↑
There are water and restrooms near the assembly area.
No dogs are allowed on campus.
No metal spikes are allowed.
Courses ↑
As is usual for Summer Series events, three courses will be offered:
Beginner
Short (intermediate/advanced)
Long (intermediate/advanced)
The course setters notes will be posted above closer to the event date.
Participants can choose either the Short or Long course to earn points for the respective Summer Series (see below). (Of course, you can ignore the Summer Series competition, and do this and other Summer Series events "for fun".)
Keep in mind that you can earn Summer Series points from only the first course you run at the event, and only if it's one of the ranking courses. That is, you will not earn points if you run the Beginner course first and then one of the ranking courses.
The DVC campus is notorious for its multi-level buildings, which the Short and Long courses will visit. There's an explanation here of how to interpret a map showing multiple levels.
