Thank you all of you for a wonderful event at the Shell Ridge park!
It was supposed to be held in April of 2019, but unfortunately was canceled due to COVID-19. Happily it was recovered two years later in December 2021. The timing for the event was perfect, and we had it on such a sunny, windless day—only one day before storms arrived.
The event gathered almost 200 people! Hurray to all the participants! I do believe that all of them had a wonderful experience.
I want to thank all the volunteers who helped this event to happen.
First I want to thank Martin Kunz. The one who did the hard work of the event—designed marvelous courses, spent a tremendous amount of time doing fieldwork, and helped me with many organizational questions.
Big, big, big thanks to Daniel Ingram for bringing a lot of students! (I can't imagine how one can motivate young people to wake up at 3 AM, make a multi-hour drive to run all these big climbs.) And for taking all care for other youth groups, for providing beginners clinics, and last, but not least, for helping with all the insurance quizzes for the event.
Many thanks to Dan Bylin, the Shell Ridge park ranger, for being supportive to orienteering, issuing the park permits, and visiting us during the event. Dan is retiring soon, and from the whole club, I wish him to stay healthy and have a lot of wonderful upcoming days.
Thanks to Sarah Williams for taking care of registration and helping me with the email updates, Jeffery Lanam for servicing E-punch, Chuck Spalding for running the event's webpage, Tapio Karras for the RouteGadget, Bob Cooley for map printing, Shell Ridge Elementary School custodial staff for allowing up to use the school restrooms, Jay Hann for help with equipment, Jeffrey Goodwin for starting all this out. I had a lot of fun working with all of you, and learning how the events are organized here.
Nit. There was a little issue with checkpoint #42. It was misplaced about 20 meters, and was not well seen from the right place. The organizational committee believes this did not influence the participants' joy of the courses. 😉
