When BAOC Events Coordinator Graham Brew asked Steve Gregg and me to course set and direct an event at Point Pinole in January, our first concern was weather. We both remembered past events in January, February, and even March, when the weather was less than ideal. Winter storms can quickly move in off San Francisco Bay, with heavy rain and high winds making orienteering miserable if not impossible. We decided to have a positive outlook, and told Graham if he would coordinate the weather we would take care of the rest. Graham did a most excellent job with the weather; it was absolutely perfect for orienteering!
This years' event consisted of a Beginners (White/Yellow) course and a Club Relay. The Relay turned out to be a lot of fun, and served as the club's first practice relay for the 2020 California Orienteering Festival, during which a relay will be held as part of the North American Championships. Jay Hann and Steve Gregg learned the ins and outs of the relay software, and we all worked out some details in setting up the map exchange.
We had a good turnout with about 35 on the beginner course and 70 competing in the Relay. We were particularly excited to have six relay teams from the Carson Nevada NJROTC. This group has been active at BAOC events for several years, and will be entering the NJROTC National Champs at Vasquez Rocks (in Southern California) in February. Best of luck from BAOC.

Lost and Found

A gray Under Armour jacket, with a blue "Thud Rumble" T-shirt inside (whatever that is). Left at the start line of the Relay. Rumor has it that this clothing belongs to Rex W.
A nice Silva baseplate compass, found on the ground near the first control of the Relay course.
A high-denomination bill, neatly folded into fourths, found on the ground beneath the map exchange string.
Let me know if any of these items belong to you, and we'll figure out a way to return them. For the bill, tell me the exact denomination, and why and how it got dropped at that particular location!
Also, Gavin Wyatt-Mair found a single blue-and-white striped orienteering sock on the way to the Giant Highway parking lot.
