Event Write-Up

By Penny DeMoss

Many of the participants of the Bon Tempe event this year had never been there when it wasn't raining. A bit disorienting ... but quite nice. It's the first time we ever ran out of cold drinks instead of hot chocolate. Yes, it was a terrific day, and a good time was had by all. Speaking of times, it looks like instead of Short, Medium, and Long courses, I set Short, Long, and Longer. Well, nobody complained, mostly because it was so beautiful out, I guess. Thanks for coming, and, of course, thanks for volunteering during the year. We enjoyed spending the weekend with all of you.

We didn't use e-punch, so I suppose that explains why a couple people headed out without punch cards (forgot how that works...). But no one can figure out why Theo headed out without a map! I think one always needs one of those. (Memory 'O, anyone?) Too funny.

Werner Haag was a bit worried about his sore knee so chose to run Short. He was 1st in 44:55. Gary Kraght was 2nd in 57:17, and Steph Maclean was 3rd in 1:18:30.

Martin Kunz led the way on the Medium course with a 1st-place finish in 1:02:50. We've figured out how to get Dan Greene to run really hard ... start Derek Maclean right behind, but don't tell Dan that Derek came in after only 5 controls. A very good run from Dan to finish 2nd in 1:18:20. Not bad considering he spent as much time looking behind as he did looking at his map! Stephen Harrison had a good run to place 3rd in 1:23:51.

On the Long course, Francois Leonard was 1st in 1:03:10. He moaned about a mistake at #4, but I see from his GP track on RouteGadget, that it was not as bad as described. Mikkel Conradi also made a mistake in the same area, but didn't feel he lost a lot of time. He was 2nd in the time of 1:13:14. Third place went to Rex Winterbottom with a time of 1:21:08.

The full results can be viewed below.

Thanks very much to the following people for their help with the event:

  • Map printing: Bob Cooley
  • Homemade fudge: Marie-Josee Parayre
  • Control pick up: Steve Gregg, Dan Greene, Tapio Karras, Bruce Wolfe, Nancy Lindeman, and Greg Ehrensing

Lost and Found

Only two items were left at Bon Tempe, and they were both left on Sunday (we think).

  • A burgundy, 2-ply, polypro top (Didn't need that this year!!! Oh, ye of little faith.)
  • A Silva, "starter", base-plate compass with a red, string lanyard.

We're pretty sure the compass was left on Sunday, but if it sounds like yours, and you were there on Saturday, then it's probably yours.

Cheers
Harold and Penny
